The Boy in Darkness
The Boy in Darkness was a long term project that took approximately one year in the making. Inspired by Mervyn Peake's book of the same title, it is a short film featuring a young boy who, on account of his curiosity about life in the outside world, flees from his home in an attempt to escape what he believes is a life of boredom and quite desperation. However, much to his disappointment, he finds himself lost in a world he does not know. Helpless and somewhat fearful, he wanders the streets aimlessly and starts to wonder what it was that had put the idea of running away into his head in the first place.
Eventually, the thing that has been luring him all the while begins to reveal itself as he starts to hear a strange and disturbing whistling.
Then he is lured against his will by something dark and uncanny.
The Boy in Darkness is a metaphorical depiction of a boy who is distracted by something dark under the illusion that he is escaping to a better life.
